Cyberbullying

Cyberbulling

Hello Parents and Guardians,

We would like to bring your attention to a very serious matter; cyberbullying.

Cyberbullying is defined as “willful and repeated harm inflicted through the use of computers, cell phones, and other electronic devices”. Simply stated, this is where adolescents use technology, usually computers or cell phones to harass, threaten, humiliate, or otherwise hassle their peers. Web pages, videos, and social networking sites, such as Facebook and Instagram, are also being created for the sole purpose of making fun of others.

At Alvarado Middle School, we take this form of bullying very seriously!

We are asking parents to PLEASE monitor their child’s use of technology. As a parent some things you should be doing include:

*Educate your child about appropriate on-line use

*Monitor your child’s on-line networking by interacting with them   on-line or purchasing a software program that allows you to monitor your child’s on-line activity.

*Regularly check the accounts your child has created. Know all passwords and screen names.

*Create an on-line contract outlining appropriate use of technology.

Thank you for joining our efforts to help all of our students feel safe and enjoy their learning experience.

Thank you,
The Counseling team
